Why am I seeing a message that I need parent permission to access the app or that the app is age restricted?
Some locations have local laws that require The Washington Post app to be restricted based on age or require permission from an adult family member. Age is determined by the age you entered on your phone, tablet or other device.
- "Parent permission needed" means that you CAN access the app with the help of an adult family member.
- "Age restricted" means that you CANNOT access the app with the account currently logged in on your device.
How do I request permission from a parent or adult family member?
When local laws require parental approval for users under a minimum age, you will see a message describing that permission is needed. To request permission, follow the instructions for your device type.
On Apple devices
Apple devices and the App Store manage family permissions through Family Sharing, with features such as Ask to Buy and Screen Time.
On Android/Google devices
Android devices and the Google Play Store manage family permissions through Google Family Link.
On other devices
